Only wore these boots 2 summers working at a golf course. Noticed my feet were starting to get wet.

Looked at the bottoms and was shocked to see the first rubber layer of the soul was coming off in pieces, and the next layer was also cracked and disintegrating.

I see from these reviews this isnโ€™t a new problem. Most of the people I know who have to wear safety boots to work swear by Red Wings, but sadly this companyโ€™s excellent reputation is obviously going down the tubes.

Reason of review: Bad quality.

Location: Cold Lake, Alberta

The supersole is made to be very comfortable and good for your body. While they are soft and comfy, they do deteriorate at a faster rate than rubber.

In addition they are constructed with polyurethane which has a water molecule in it. When the sole sits over a period of time without friction/use, the molecule actually dries out and causes the sole to fall apart. So they must be worn I'd say a minimum of 2-5 days a month. With that being said they are one of the most comfortable and biomechanically beneficial boots ive ever seen.

Take them to a Red Wing Shoe store and see if there is anything they can do. Worst case you can get them resoled for around $100. You can even have a different sole put on, such as a solid rubber Vibram sole, that will last MUCH longer.

They will give you a new outsole and insole. They will even condition it with boot oil, buffing treatment and new laces before they return the boot back to you for free.

Yup, you have exactly the same problem as do I with my Red Wing boots (look to be the same style too). These boots replaced the military spec boots which became backup boots.

The latter are still in good shape - the Red Wing soles are mush.

BTW: I tossed the Red Wing walking shoes because the inside materials wore out before the outers. I'm starting to see a trend.

So, the reason that happens, is due to the fact that the boots have just sat around too long. Urethane, like any other material, has a shelf life.

Much like a rubber tire. If it sits for too long without being moved or flexed, the materials start to break down. That boot was made 4 years ago at the time of you posting this. You have to get your boots out and work them to avoid things like this.

It's not due to weight or anything like that. Just stagnation

Had they very same thing happen, only wore a this pair a few times cause I own many other pairs of boots for different job conditions, they want me to pair for the repair @#$% that. they just lost a family of customers for life..

Your problem may very well have been caused by your constant "squatting" with more weight being put on the bent shoe. This leads to cracks and deterioration because the soles are no longer made with leather but some type of rubber.

I have had this happen to many brands of shoe with rubber soles because I, too spend alot of time outdoors and tend to squat down to pick up things or work in that position. In my case, it is always my left shoe that goes bad first as that is the shoe being bent with weight on it most often. I try to buy only leather-soled shoes, but they are more expensive tho they last alot longer.

Shoe manufacturers use rubber soles because of the cost. To your detriment.
